What started as a good practical trial exercise for students yielded some exciting results for James Farmer, Agriculture Co-ordinator for Mid Valley Campus Gippsland Tafe when he took on a Grander trial.
Students were asked to assess plant and root growth of 30 various plant varieties with approximately 50% of the plant varieties classified as fast feeders and the remaining mixture classified as medium to slow. There were 10 of each plant type , five watered with Grander Water, (GW) while the other 5 plants were watered with normal tap water.
“Prior to the commencement of the trial, students selected one plant of each variety and measured the plant height and root length,” said James. Some of the trial outcome results are.
- An increase of 10-15% in plant height and root length
- Organic content of the soil watered with GW was slightly less compared to soil watered with normal tap water. This would indicate that the water from the Grander Unit helped in the breakdown of organic matter.
“We would like to undertake more studies using GW to assess results for both plant and organic soils composition over longer periods of time,” James admits.
